On Nora

  • Paddington, W2
  • Fashion sketches, flowers, champagne
  • Athletic, 166 cm
  • Hazel eyes, long honey blonde hair

Based in Paddington, and happy to travel to any hotel in town.

At four in the morning, while the night desk is still answering messages, Nora is sometimes already on her way to the flower market at Nine Elms, coffee in hand, to buy armfuls of whatever the growers have brought in overnight. That is Nora in short: spirited, adventurous and happiest somewhere most people have not thought of going. She brings the same enthusiasm to an evening, and it is catching.

Honey blonde hair worn long, hazel eyes, an athletic 166 cm frame: she has the look of someone just back from a beach, even in November, and she dresses the part with bright colours, gold sandals when she can get away with them and a good coat when she cannot. She is in her mid twenties and designs clothes in her spare time, sketching in a notebook she carries everywhere. She speaks English warmly and with enthusiasm.

Her evenings tend to begin with bubbles. Her favourite is the long champagne bar at St Pancras, under the great arched roof, where she likes to watch the Eurostar passengers arriving and guess where they have come from. From there a cab back west to a Paddington hotel, through the park if the evening is warm. Guests landing late at Heathrow and staying by the station find her an easy, cheerful first evening in London.

Nora lives in Paddington, close to the airport trains and the hotels around the station. She likes a day of warning and never minds an arrival evening; tell Henrietta your flight time and your hotel.

After dark Nora

Nora, after hours

She meets you on the upper concourse at St Pancras, where the champagne bar runs along the old platform and the trains slide in beneath the arches. Nora orders two glasses from a grower she has read about and plays her favourite game: guess where each arriving passenger has come from, and why. She sketches the best coat she sees on a napkin in about thirty seconds and gives it to you. Then a cab west through the evening traffic, and if the night is mild she asks the driver to cut through the park so you can see Kensington Gardens in the dark. At your hotel she finds a jug for the flowers she has brought, because she always brings flowers, and arranges them before she takes off her coat.

FAQ 03

Nora, answering

3 things guests tend to ask before booking, answered in Nora's own words.

With a glass of something cold, somewhere you can watch people arriving. Stations are perfect. Everyone is excited about something.

A linen shirt for summer, in a colour you would never choose yourself. You would wear it once, nervously, and then all the time.

Because it is the most beautiful place in London at five in the morning, and almost nobody sees it. I like having a secret or two.

Notes on Nora

No notes on file for Nora yet, and the desk will never invent one. Guests add a note only once a booking has actually taken place; it shows nothing but their first name and when it was written, and Henrietta reads every one before it is posted.

Should Nora want a note about her withdrawn, it comes down the same day.
