Toned and athletic: five companions, and the route each takes back to your hotel

An evening ends with the journey to your door, and the five companions on this list count that journey as one more part of the night. Toned describes a build kept by habit rather than for show, and each of the five keeps it her own way. None of them is in any hurry to call a cab while the pavements are dry and the street lamps are lit.

Below is the route each one prefers. Mention it to the desk and the booking can be planned around it, start to finish.

Log01

Soho to Mayfair, after the jazz: Angelika

Angelika plays tennis in Hyde Park at seven most mornings, which may be why the stroll from a Soho jazz cellar back across Regent Street into Mayfair feels like nothing to her. She opens at the Rivoli Bar and lets the music decide how late it runs. Book two hours, £500, or four with dinner, £900, and nothing needs to hurry.

Log02

Through Green Park as the lamps come on: Sonya

Sonya still takes a ballet barre class twice a week and moves with a dancer's lightness. Her route runs from Floris on Jermyn Street to an early dinner in St James's and, on a warm night, across Green Park to your hotel. Ten o'clock is her limit, which guests with an early flight or meeting tend to appreciate.

Log03

Archer Street to Marble Arch, windows down: Laura

Laura rides at the stables on Bathurst Mews and skis every winter, but her way home is a slow cab from Bocca di Lupo past Marble Arch, windows open if the weather allows. She lives in Paddington and is also the quickest of the five to a Heathrow hotel, where the three hour minimum of £700 includes her travel.

Log04

St Pancras, then west across the park: Nora

Nora is sometimes heading for the flower market at Nine Elms at four in the morning, and she starts her evenings at the champagne bar under the St Pancras roof. The ride back west to a Paddington hotel cuts through the park when the night is warm. She is a cheerful first evening for a guest who landed late, and two hours at £500 covers it.

Log05

Aldwych, past the opera house windows: Tina

Tina, 158 cm and quick on her feet, walks you from the Lobby Bar at One Aldwych to dinner near the Piazza and home by way of Bow Street and the glow of the Royal Opera House. She works evenings and often confirms a Strand or Aldwych hotel the same night.

Log06

Rain, shoes and the long way round

All five will happily walk further than most guests expect. If rain is forecast, she will say so and a cab takes over the last leg; if the night is fine, allow a few extra minutes for the long way round. Two hours at £500 leaves room for a short stroll between bar and hotel, and four hours with dinner allow a proper one.

Building the route into the booking

If you arrive with the evening already sketched, tell the desk where it starts and where it should end, and the length of the booking follows from the distance. For a guest coming in by air, the arrivals board booking times a companion to your flight. On other boards, Sonya and Tina stand with the petite companions, Angelika with the statuesque, and Nora among the blondes.
