Petite: seven companions, and the seat each one heads for

Walk into a hotel bar with any of these seven and watch where she sits. It tells you more than her height, which runs from 158 cm for Tina to 169 cm for Tiffany, who is filed here for her fine frame rather than her inches. Petite describes build and nothing else; every woman on this list is an adult, in her twenties or early thirties, and carries herself accordingly.

So the list is arranged by seat, the one each companion chooses when the choice is left to her.

Log01

At the counter, facing the bartender: Tina

Tina takes a stool at the Lobby Bar at One Aldwych, the tall triangular room above the Strand, where she can see every cocktail built in front of her. She walks fast, talks fast, collects soul records and sketches coats on the backs of menus. She works evenings, often confirms the same night for Strand and Aldwych hotels, and a £500 booking of two hours covers a drink and then dinner around Covent Garden.

Log02

The one with a view of the street: Tiffany

Tiffany always finds the chair with the best view of the pavement, ideally in the library of Hazlitt's on Frith Street, where she pours two glasses from the honesty bar and signs for them in the book herself. Her camera comes out for Georgian doors and crooked stairs. Midweek is easiest, and ninety minutes at £400 covers a glass in Soho and the short stroll back.

Log03

A bar stool beneath Piccadilly: Jasmin

Jasmin heads for Bar Américain, the Art Deco room under Brasserie Zédel, orders you something classic and then tells you exactly why it works. She dances salsa on Tuesdays and is working through the perfume counters of the West End, one sample a week. Her evenings begin after nine, which suits guests just out of a theatre.

Log04

The only comfortable armchair: Lea

Lea finds it within a minute of entering any suite. Her other favourite seat is in the small auditorium of the Donmar Warehouse, where no actor can hide. She lives in Belgravia and is easiest to book midweek for hotels there and around Victoria.

Log05

High in the amphitheatre: Sonya

On her nights off Sonya watches the Royal Ballet from the top of the house, because from up there the choreography reads like a drawing. In company she keeps early, exact hours, five until ten, with a stop at Floris on Jermyn Street and dinner in a quiet St James's room. She is the calmest seat on this list, and at 32 the most settled.

Log06

Standing first, then the hotel bar: Rosa

Rosa eats a warm pastry on her feet at Borough Market, follows the river to the Turbine Hall, and only sits down at a hotel bar with the Shard lit overhead. Sunday to Thursday from mid afternoon; three hours at £700 lets all of it fit near London Bridge.

Log07

The table nearest the glass: Lucy

At the Sky Garden on Fenchurch Street, thirty five floors up, Lucy chooses the table closest to the window and names the planets as the sky darkens. A daytime booking of two hours at £500 suits her, and so does a midweek evening in the City of London.

Log08

Settling in for the evening

A companion who likes her corner of a room also likes a relaxed pace, and the girlfriend experience booking is built around exactly that: a hotel evening that feels familiar rather than formal. On other boards, Lucy also stands with the slim and slender companions, Sonya and Tina with the toned, and Rosa among the curvaceous.
